Neighbour is a community-made zine created during the 2026 Melville Youth Collective (MYC) Markets, held at Goolugatup Heathcote Reserve on Saturday, 7 March 2026, and hosted by the City of Melville.

Across the day, market-goers, stallholders, and local community members were invited to contribute a single page in response to one prompt:

"Neighbour."

There were no rules, no expectations, and no edits - just an open invitation to reflect, respond, and create. What came out of it is a collection of fun, thoughtful, playful, and personal interpretations of what it means to live alongside one another.

Each page in this zine was made on the day, then scanned and compiled exactly as it was created.

About the MYC Markets

The Melville Youth Collective Markets are a youth-focused community event that brings together young creatives, local makers, and community organisations in a shared space of creativity, expression, and connection.

Held in the riverside setting of Goolugatup Heathcote Reserve, the markets provide opportunities for young people to showcase and sell their work, and community members to connect and collaborate.

This zine was created as part of that spirit - an activation designed to invite participation, spark conversation, and amplify the voices of those present on the day.

About the Project

This zine was facilitated and produced by Maesons Soapbox - a mobile bookstore, storytelling space, and emerging zine & story distro travelling across Western Australia.

Zine-making is one of the Soapbox's core tools for community storytelling. Neighbour marks its first community-compiled zine, with many more to come.

If you'd like to contribute to future zines, collaborate, or learn more about where the Soapbox will be next, head to the home page or get in touch.
